Nekemte health Science College was established in 1943 E.C by Swedish missionaries. Named Teferi Mekonnen Hospital Nursing School, started by training 7 nurses. It was administered by Swedish missionaries until 1966 E.C.and till then it graduated 143 nurses. After being closed for six years, it was reopened in 1972 E.C by the name Nekemte nursing school and administered under the ministry of health until 1996 E.C, then under the education bureau for two years and back to the health bureau until 2001. It was renamed as Nekemte health science college I 1999 E.C and administered under Oromia TVET until the end of 2012 E.C.Currently, the college administration is transferred to Oromia regional health bureau since September 2013 E.C. Nekemte health science college is one of the oldest HSC in the country (next to Menelik II HSC which is established in 1942).

- Provide demand-based practicable pre-service training to produce competent trainees by making self-reliant manpower for the aspiring and currently operating healthcare industry as well as delivering demand-based in-service training to fill the gap in knowledge and skills of health industry workers

- By 2022 E.C, to be preferable and conducive in delivering pre-service training and in-service training center in Ethiopia and be competitive CPD center in East Africa in the training of competent and disciplined healthcare industry professionals those who will be a base and satisfy the needs of the health industry customers
