Overview of Nekemte health science college CPD center
Nekemte health Science College in-service training (IST) center, established in the year 2015 G.C fulfilling human and infrastructure requirements set in the Ethiopian national in-service training implementation guide. Since its establishment, the center has been providing training on different health and health-related training for health professionals of different occupations for wider regions of Oromia.
As clearly stated in the ministry’s CPD directives and guidelines, there is a high need for continuous professional development to maintain professional competence in an environment of numerous challenges, rapid organizational changes, information technology, increasing public expectations and demands for quality and greater accountability in the delivery of health services.
To this end, the Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH) has adopted and customized the national CPD guideline and directives with the essential aim of improving the health status of Ethiopians through the delivery of quality health services by competent health professionals and helps to establish a CPD system in the country through outlining the process of accreditation of CPD accreditors, CPD providers, and CPD courses and then to link CPD with re-licensure.
In line with the directives and guidelines, being one of the CPD providers, conducting CPD need assessment being with concerned bodies, our CPD center has the basic infrastructure and human resources to serve as one of the CPD centers in our region and wants to contribute to the aforementioned aims of the federal ministry of health of Ethiopia
A general overview of processes of CPD Service Provision
As the first step in CPD implementation is the identification of health professionals' gaps in service delivery, our center will conduct assessments to identify the areas that will needs improvements through training. Following identification of CPD needs, if the identified areas of courses are not yet approved, the center will apply for CPD courses to be approved; if already approved, the center will provide training using already approved training materials by obtaining from the ministry of health of Ethiopia.
The modalities of the CPD will be primarily face-to-face that will integrate practical and theoretical components to enhance the quality of health services and through time other modalities may be considered being following directions given from the federal ministry of health of Ethiopia.

Human resources and Infrastructures
- As per the requirements set in the national CPD guideline and directives, necessary human power (CPD director, Training officer, It officer, and Secretary) were assigned by the college. In relation to infrastructure requirements the center has:
- Fully furnished CPD office with telephone, desktop computers, laptops, scanners, and different types of printers
- 2 fully furnished auditorium which can accommodate 30 participants at once
- Broadband Wi-Fi 8GB internet services
- Two syndicates/ break out rooms which each can accommodate 8-10 participants
- 1 ICT room
