Nekemte Health science college is providing training since 1943 E.C for seventeen years with different departments. Depending on Health sector needs, Nekemte health science college starts training provision with Health information Administrator (HIA) level-IV in 2002 E.C in collaboration with Tulane University. The health information Administrator department is designed to develop the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitude of the learners to the standard required by the OS. Learners who successfully completed the Program and incompetent will be qualified to work as a Health Information Administrator with competencies elaborated in the respective OS.
Therefore HIA profession is expected to Apply basic computer applications, Perform Disease Classification and Coding, Organize and Maintain medical record unit, Perform Medical Record Unit Procedures, Perform Patient Data Collection, Compilation, and Entry, Monitor Admission/ Discharge documentation procedure, Apply Professional Ethics and manage medico-legal issues, Apply and Promote Effective Communication Skills, Apply Health System Principles to Monitor and Evaluate Health Records, Implement and Maintain Health Information Systems, Prepare Service Delivery, and Disease Reports, Collect and Report Disease Surveillance data, Develop and Query simple relational Database, Administer Database Back-Up and Recovery, Prepare Health Care Statistics and Compute HMIS indicators, Perform Computer maintenance, troubleshooting, and Networking, Apply First Aid and Emergency Response, Apply Problem Solving Techniques and tools, Establish and Manage Quality Standards.
